YWAM Language Services is a language ministry dedicated to providing free interpretation, translation and language learning resources to Christian missionaries within YWAM. We are an international team of 30 plus volunteer Christian interpreters, translators, and language teachers who have a heart for seeing God transform lives via the heart languages of the people. Through the power of diversity in numbers and most importantly, the Holy Spirit, we equip English-speaking missionaries with the linguistic tools they’ll need to bring the Kingdom of God to the nations.
Youth With A Mission is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world.
Also known as YWAM (pronounced “WHY-wham”), we unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known.
Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to help youth get involved in missions.
Today, we still focus on youth and we also include people of all ages. We currently have tens of thousands of staff (called “YWAMers”) from nearly every country, including places like Indonesia, Nepal, Mozambique, and Colombia.
YWAM Language Services was founded at the start of 2021 by Michael Negrón. He has been a part of YWAM for a couple of years staffing at the only fully French-speaking base located in Lyon, France. He noticed the lack of organization in translation and interpretation amongst the different bases throughout France. Oftentimes, French-speaking staff would be asked to interpret long hours, a task that cut deeply into their ministry time. He also noted how stressful it was for these bases to find an outside language interpreter for their bilingual Discipleship Training Schools (DTS). And loads of English-speaking staff didn't know enough French to fully connect with locals in their respective communities.
With all of that in mind, and inspiration from both the Holy Spirit and deep conversations about these needs, he decided to set up this language ministry. It involved a lot of communication and trust building, but it was an instant success! He talked extensively to all the bases in France and to as many churches and bilingual Christians as possible to create a team of over 30 members who could provide these free services professionally. In such a short amount of time, we've grown exponentially and have been involved with so many projects around the world!
Our vision is to see God work through each and every YWAMer so that they prosper spiritually in a country who speaks a different language than their own. We hope to provide them with the linguistic and cultural tools that they'll need to share the true Gospel of Jesus Christ and God's eternal love to the lost. We want to also provide equal access to language for all non English-speakers who interact with YWAM in any way, shape, or form.
We strongly believe that nobody needs to learn a second language just to come into a relationship with God the Father, but we do believe that missionaries should since they are called to serve somewhere that speaks a different language.
"For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God.”
